New changes to the adoption law
The recent changes to the Civil Code and to the Legal Regime of the Adoption Process, come to extend the age limit for both adopters and adoptees. Marta Ferreira Dias explains what these changes consist of.
It was on August 17th that Law No. 72/2023 introduced changes to the Civil Code and to the Legal Regime of the Adoption Process, after promulgation previously announced by the President of the Republic.
The change to the legal regime for adoption had already been the stage of extensive discussions in the parliament, where partisan forces were making efforts to ensure the adoption law became increasingly closer to our social reality and protected those who need it the most: children.
