Regulation of the Voluntary Carbon Market in Portugal
The Voluntary Carbon Market (MVC) in Portugal, created by Decree-Law no. 4/2024, of January 5, constitutes an important tool in promoting initiatives to mitigate climate change, providing a regulated environment for compensation voluntary greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.
On October 2nd, three ordinances were published that regulate fundamental aspects of this market, thus creating a robust regulatory framework, while ensuring that the market operates with transparency, efficiency and credibility.
