PRA creates economic unit to address challenges of digital content and copyright
The growth of digital content and the pressure of technological transformation, particularly artificial intelligence, on copyright led PRA to create the Copyright and Media Economic Unit, a specialized structure dedicated to legal and strategic advice in the areas of copyright, related rights, digital content, media, entertainment, and creative industries.
The new unit is a response to the development of the creative economy, the digital transformation of the media, and the growing regulatory complexity associated with the economic exploitation of content in its various formats, both in traditional and digital environments. It will be led by Partner Gonçalo Gil Barreiros.
With the aim of providing support to creators, artists, producers, publishers, digital platforms, media companies, advertising and creative agencies, technology startups, and investors, the Copyright and Media Economic Unit will cover areas such as the protection and enhancement of copyright and related rights, licensing and negotiation of rights, production and distribution contracts, digital content management, regulatory compliance, litigation and dispute resolution, support for technological areas, namely in the field of cybercrime, artificial intelligence, blockchain, and digital content regulation.
According to Gonçalo Gil Barreiros, coordinator of this unit, “the creation reflects the firm’s commitment to keeping pace with the evolution of business models in the media and creative industries sector, offering legal solutions that combine technical rigor, economic vision, and in-depth market knowledge.”
The creation of this unit reflects PRA’s ongoing commitment to developing skills in line with market trends and strengthening its ability to respond to client needs.
